Independence Day on the Rock - Independence Day on the Rock

Make something that floats and race it on the Rock River at Traxler Park.

The competition starts at 2:00 PM. Entrants should meet with their "boats" at 1:30 PM at the boat launch in the main part of Traxler Park to check-in and review the rules and safety procedures. (Entries on the day of the contest will only be accepted if there are available spots.)

Here are rules:

• Be safe and have fun.

• This is not a timed race. All vessels will race at the same time.

• All vessels must be homemade of materials that you can find around your home, garage or shop. Materials allowed include: cardboard, wood, PVC, duct tape, milk jugs, saran wrap, old t-shirts (for sails), outdoor furniture, old bikes, plastic barrels/drums, plastic pools, and pool noodles.

• Materials NOT allowed include: foam, inflatable rafts, canoes, row boats, or pool toys.

• Paddles, oars, and sails are allowed. Pedal power is okay too. No motors of any kind.
• All vessels must float on their own, without support.
• All participants mut have a USCG-approved PFD (life jacket) on at all times.
• All participants must be contained within their vessels. Participants are NOT allowed to swim along side their vessel.
• The Rock Aqua Jays will not provide equipment, but will provide all on-the-water safety which includes boats, rescue personnel, backboard(s), and first aid kit.
• All vessels must be packed up and removed or properly discarded at the end of the race.
• The Rock Aqua Jays and City of Janesville are not liable for any injuries sustained by any participant during this event, nor is either liable for any damage to personal property as a result of this race.

No entry fee. It is free of charge to enter this race. The race is limited to a maximum of 24 entries.
